JAKARTA - Five months after the initial launch, Twitter's Communities feature is now available for beta version of Android users. Users can share tweets or discuss topics according to their Communities name.

Basically, the Communities feature is Twitter's answer to a Facebook group or Reddit subreddit. The feature lets users stay away from tweeting publicly, and provides another way to form a community around a particular subject in the app.

Android is the second goal of this feature, as iOS and Web users already experience this feature in September 2021, allowing users to tweet in groups about specific topics.

The Communities feature can actually be created by anyone regardless of how many followers they have, there are two options to create a group, be private or open to the public.

For the private option means users who want to join the group, they have to be invited, that means they need to know someone who is already in the group. While groups are public, they are usually filled with spam, as each new member can invite up to five connections of their own.

Launching Social Media Today, Thursday, January 20, every Communities has a Twitter approved moderator, they set and enforce group rules and invite others to join the conversation.

In Communities, users can Tweet directly to a specific audience instead of all of their followers, and only those in Communities can like and reply.

Although this feature is still in beta testing, since its debut, Communities has grown around Roblox, Cryptocurrency, Xbox, R&B music and Formula 1 racing.

Twitter has engagement data, it knows how active people are in Communities, and whether the feature is worth rolling out in the future.
