JAKARTA - Zoom has reportedly acquired assets from event production startup Liminal. With this Zoom is likely to meet the needs of emerging industries, such as virtual events.
According to the announcement, the company will be taking over features of Liminal's Add-on, ZoomOSC and ZoomISO that Liminal created to create professional virtual events, and will most likely integrate Zoom into its software as part of the acquisition.
ZoomOSC is designed to enhance professional meetings and events using the Open Sound Control (OSC) protocol, allowing users to integrate Zoom with third-party software, hardware controllers, and media servers.
Meanwhile, ZoomISO can give users the ability to export each participant's video feed as a separate output to professional production hardware, five of which can be selected for HD size.
These features allow the company to make higher-quality productions than the average Zoom call today. Not only that, Liminal company founders Andy Carluccio and Jonathan Kokotajlo were also acquired by Zoom.
Launching The Verge, Tuesday, December 28, Zoom spokeswoman Candace Dean said that the existing Liminal tools will remain available through the Liminal site, however, as Zoom expands the tool and builds something similar into the platform, there will no longer be a need for it. as a separate addition.
By acquiring assets from Liminal, Zoom says it will help the platform bridge the gap between the forms of event control tools, which should be useful for broadcast studios, theaters and other organizations looking to create professional broadcasts.
Zoom began eyeing large-scale virtual events when it first announced the Events feature in May and officially launched it in July. Zoom noticed that during the pandemic, many organizers were taking their events online.
With the Events feature, organizers can create event hubs, sell tickets, and create multiple live streaming sessions throughout the day with great quality because Zoom has acquired Liminal.
