JAKARTA - Currently, electric cars (Electric Vehicles / EVs) have been widely used in several countries, but the problem is the lack of charging stations for their vehicles, making them difficult to find.

This means that EV owners need to be more careful when planning routes that are long distances and finding charging stations is difficult. But Google's application, Waze will soon provide a feature to search and find EV charging stations on its maps.

Previously, users were able to show gas station locations on maps and their Waze routes, but now there will be an option to search for EV filling stations as well. The new feature in Waze will also include additional charging station pins when users plan their route.

“This is a very exciting moment for Waze as Volkswagen brings electric vehicle (EV) charging stations to our maps for the first time ahead of a very busy holiday travel period,” said Jeffrey Kohl, Head of Industry at Waze, as quoted by Ubergizmo, Saturday, 18 December.

"Volkswagen is helping to shape what EV is like on the Waze map and we look forward to highlighting the breadth of EV stations available across the US, especially as more automotive brands move toward an electric future."

However, Waze is the second app to be given the ability to show EV charging locations, the first time Google embed the service in its Maps in 2019.

However, this service is only available in the United States (US), it is not known for sure whether Google plans to launch it for users in other countries that are also electric car markets such as Indonesia.
