TikTok Updates Its Algorithm To Adjust User FYP, So It's More Secure!

JAKARTA - After launching various new editing features, now TikTok will change its algorithm to match the content of the "For You" feed known as FYP.

Through its official release, the company acknowledges that its algorithms are predictive and can amplify negative experiences by repeating videos on emotionally volatile topics, such as a breakup.

It is known, TikTok became popular because of the strength of its algorithm. Therefore, the app will recommend users' videos that are very suitable to their taste, even claiming to be able to predict people's sexuality without them knowing it.

But at the same time, the algorithm's tendency to give users more topics of interest can lead to negative results, if those things of interest can have a negative impact.

TikTok gives an example, a user who recently broke up with their partner can be flooded with breakup videos on their feed, amplifying negative emotions. This is a problem that other social media platforms face, and which has not been effectively resolved.

TikTok's approach will not only remove such content from the site. It will look inward to vary the frequency with which these videos are shown in the feed, so that they are not clustered and interspersed with unrelated videos.

"We're also trying to recognize that if our systems may inadvertently recommend only a very limited type of content, even if it doesn't violate our policies, it could have a negative effect if the bulk of the content someone watches, such as content about loneliness or weight loss," said the statement. "Our goal is for everyone's For You feed to feature a wide variety of content, creators, and topics."

Besides, to make this feature even better, the company even consults with experts in various fields from psychology to AI ethics.

Now TikTok will also expand its curation features with new tools to help people customize their feeds. Good for a vegetarian who wants to see a few meat recipes or a very busy worker, who wants to know a beauty tutorial. Unfortunately, it is not yet known when this new algorithm will be available to users globally.
