Modric Emphasized That Real Madrid Will Continue To Win Without Ronaldo

JAKARTA - Real Madrid received a heavy blow after the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo to Juventus two seasons ago. However, Luka Modric believes his team will not lose their winning mentality.

The Croatia international also did not deny that Ronaldo's presence was very important throughout the Portugal captain's career at the Santiago Bernabeu.

"There is no need to discuss how important Cristiano is to Real Madrid," he told Sportske Novosti as quoted from MARCA, Thursday, July 23.

"But I have to say that we are not overwhelmed by the fact that he is not there in the sense that we cannot share the same ambition.

"We are confident that we will continue to win without him."

Modric believes that the key to Real Madrid's domestic success this year will be the players' work ethic during the lockdown.

"When we were locked up, we all trained. I communicated with my teammates and noticed that they were all working with extra motivation,"

Modric admitted he was shocked and had to adapt during the lockdown because he was completely new to the pandemic. Until finally he returned to training with his teammates, he felt a stronger connection with each other and enjoyed being together again.

"We have continued to play well throughout the year, and we especially did a very good job at the end of the competition after the lockdown," said the 2018 Ballon d'Or winner.

"Our ten consecutive wins and one draw speaks for itself about this Real Madrid team," continued Modric.

The Croatian midfielder also praised Zinedine Zidane's managerial abilities. "Zidane has once again proven to be a great person," he said. "He's convincing and he's very precise in approaching the players.

"There are always players who don't play as much as they want, they are not happy and that makes sense. But the coach's approach has helped everyone feel part of the team and accept their situation.

"In this dressing room, everyone is a good person, no one creates problems for their own reasons, there are no bad apples."
