JAKARTA - A total of 59 National Football League (NFL) players tested positive for COVID-19. The rookies are scheduled to report to their team on Tuesday local time.
Earlier on Monday, top players voiced their concern and anger over the lack of a COVID-19 security protocol. The NFL Players' Association (NFLPA) and the league have reportedly approved daily coronavirus tests for all players during the first two weeks of camp.
"Our union has pushed for the most robust testing, tracking and maintenance protocols to keep our players safe," the NFLPA said in a statement Monday.
"The testing protocol that we agreed on is an important factor that will help us get back to work safely and give us the best chance to play and finish the season."
The NFLPA statement does not include information regarding plans for testing during practice.
The league is heading towards its season opening on September 10, with attendance possibly limited at stadiums across the country due to the coronavirus outbreak.
Major League Soccer (MLS) and the National Basketball Association (NBA) both operate in the "bubble" at Disney World. Orlando, Florida, reported that there were no new positive cases in their most recent testing.
MLS is in the midst of the "MLS is Back Tournament," while the NBA will resume the season on July 30th.
