West Java Taekwondo Team Determined To Dominate Papua National Sports Week Medals

JAKARTA - The West Java (Jabar) taekwondo team is trying to dominate the gold medal at the Papua National Sports Week (PON) after two days of successful competition, they won almost all of the events they competed in.

"We are optimistic that we can add gold. There are still two more days," said West Java Taekwondo coach Heryanto as quoted by Antara, Monday, September 4.

With two days remaining, he continued, it will be maximized well because there are several top athletes who have not yet competed. He hopes that the gold achievement on the second day can motivate the athletes who will compete.

On the second day of the competition, almost all the numbers competed were won by the West Java team. Different conditions occurred on the first day, which was dominated by the DKI Jakarta and Central Java teams.

The gold medals won by the West Java team included the Kyorugi number (fight) for the Under 57kg Senior Women class by Aqila Aulia Ramadani after defeating Nabila Amalia Umu Aiman from Central Java.

Furthermore, the gold medal was won from the women's individual Poomsae (martial arts) number, namely by Defia Rosmaniar with a score of 8.180 beating Central Java in second place, and East Kalimantan in third.

Then the women's team Poomsae number also resulted in gold medals which were won by the trio of Defia Rosmaniar, Kevita Deliza Rizkia, and Rachmania Gunawan Putri. With a score of 8.130, they beat Central Java and Yogyakarta.

And lastly, gold was also won from the men's team Poomsae number by Muhammad's trio, namely Muhammad Alfi Kusuma, Muhammad Rizal, and Muhammad Syarif Hidayatulloh.

As the Poomsae coach, Heryanto is optimistic that he will meet the target given by the West Java KONI for the taekwondo team, namely seven gold medals after winning four medals on the second day.
