Papua Adds 1 Gold From Futsal After Defeating West Java 4-2 In The Final

JAKARTA - The Papuan futsal team appeared militant in the final match. They crushed West Java with a score of 4-2 and were entitled to a gold medal at the 2021 Papua National Sports Week (PON).

The prestigious match took place at GOR Futsal, SP2, Timika, Mimika Regency, Sunday, October 3, as quoted from the official website of PON XX Papua.

This prestigious match attracted attention. The high enthusiasm of the Papuan people becomes adrenaline for players on the field. This support has yielded maximum results. The Papuan futsal team was unbeaten from the start.

The host, who was supported by thousands of supporters who packed the venue, immediately kicked and suppressed the West Java defense which was guarded by Ahmad Habibie. Five minutes into the game, the Papuan players who played brilliantly in the semifinals, Muhammad Najib, opened the scoring for the hosts, 1-0.

West Java, which had not yet risen after falling behind, had to swallow the bitter pill again after Pieter Marchelino Ireeuw doubled Papua's advantage to 2-0.

After being left behind by two goals, West Java, driven by Rio Pangestu Putra, continued to press the Papuan defense, which appeared slick and solid.

West Java's efforts finally paid off in the 19th minute. Rio's kick could not be blocked by Papuan goalkeeper Ayub Balubun.

Until the first half ended, the score was 2-1 for the hosts' advantage.

The match got more interesting in the second half. Just three minutes, West Java managed to equalize the score 2-2 through Rio's second goal.

The Papuan team did not remain silent. They returned thanks to Pieter Marchelino's beautiful collaboration with Fransiskus Tanu which Habibie couldn't stop in the 28th minute. The score became 3-2, Papua winning.

The drama happened two minutes before the match was over, Rio was sent off by the referee for tripping Ardiansyah Runtuboy.

Taking advantage of the number of players, Papua also increased the advantage to 4-2 after Wendy Brian Lindrey Ick scored in the 38th minute.

Until the end of the game the score did not change for the host advantage 4-2. This result also confirms Papua as the gold winner of Futsal Sports. While West Java got silver and West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) got bronze after previously winning against East Java 5-1.

The gold won by Papua seems to complete the home team's unbeaten record since the group stage.
