JAKARTA - Former Liverpool and Chelsea forward Daniel Sturridge has joined Australian side Perth Glory for the upcoming season after 18 months without a club.

The 32-year-old has not had a team since March 2020 when he terminated his contract with Turkey's Trabzonspor, having been banned for four months by the English FA for violating the match rules.

Sturridge, who won the Premier League with Chelsea and Champions League titles with the London club and Liverpool, started training with Spanish side Real Mallorca in July to build on his fitness.

He scored 68 goals in all competitions during his six years at Liverpool and has played for Manchester City, Bolton Wanderers and West Bromwich Albion.

"This is a fantastic opportunity to try a new challenge," Sturridge told the Perth Glory team's website.

"When the opportunity came, it felt like the right thing to do, to take my talent somewhere where I could enjoy football in a competitive league, and try to help the team as successful as possible.

"I'm going to give my best, work hard and try to help the team win every game that comes along and then we'll see where we end up when the season ends," added Sturridge.

Perth Glory start their home game against Adelaide United on 20 November.
