Bobie Valentinus Wins East Java's First Gold In The Combination Of Wushu In Taolu Numbers

JAKARTA - Bobie Valentinus Gunawan amazed the jury with a score of 9.71 in the men's taolu taiji quan number to win the first wushu gold medal for East Java at PON XX Papua, Merauke, Thursday.

Executing his bare-handed taiji stance and landing quite perfectly, Bobie, who is also a national training athlete, got the highest score today accumulated with a score of 9.70 which he achieved in the taiji jian number the previous day.

"From the start, I didn't have any expectations, I just wanted to play my best, the results are up to the ones above," said Bobby, Thursday, quoted by Antara.

"I have been practicing maximally, yes I give the maximum as well," he added.

Two North Sumatra athletes, Nicholas and Fredy, are entitled to silver and bronze medals in the combination of sword and bare hands.

Nicholas picked up 9.57 points in taiji quan and 9.55 in taiji jian, overtaking Fredy's accumulated points who appeared a little slumped in empty hands with 9.31 after previously pocketing 9.65 when playing swords at taiji jian.

Previously, DKI Jakarta wiped out two gold medals that were contested on the first day of the wushu sport in the taolu number.

National training athlete Edgar Xavier Marvelo opened the tap for the Jakarta wushu team medal at PON XX Papua after appearing with the best score in the taolu chang quan number.

The second gold of DKI was presented by Nandira Mauriskha who performed best in the women's taolu chang quan number.

Wushu is the first sport to be competed in Merauke, which will also host women's soccer, fencing, wrestling, chess and motorsport matches.

The wushu sport was held from September 29 to October 3 by competing for 23 gold medals from the taolu (dance arts) and sanda (matching) events.
