West Kalimantan Wins Two Gold Medals And Two Bronzes At The Papua PON Exhibition

JAKARTA - The West Kalimantan contingent won two gold medals and two bronze medals in the exhibition sport at the XX Papua Sports Week (PON).

The chairman of the XX Papua PON Contingent of the Mimika Cluster, Suhadi SW when contacted in Mimika, Sunday, said that the sports that contributed to the medal were triathlon, e-sports and hapkido exhibitions.

"Though these three sports are competed in the 20th Papua National Sports Week, they are not included in the calculation of the acquisition of the XX Papua PON medal, but will later be included in the upcoming PON sports," he said.

The name of the athlete who won the medal, namely Sandia Arum, the hapkido athlete at this exhibition, won a gold medal, in the male Daeryun number under 54 class, after defeating the Aceh athlete Yulianto in the final.

Meanwhile, Anisa Puspita Sari, the female hapkido athlete, won a bronze medal, the women's daeyun number in the under 72 kilogram class, in the semifinals she managed to beat the Lampung athlete on behalf of Ida Ayu Komang. Likewise, in the e-sports branch, West Kalimantan won a gold medal after defeating Central Java in the final.

Meanwhile, in the triathlon, West Kalimantan fielded two athletes, one male and one female athlete, while the female athlete Trias managed to present a bronze medal.

Suhadi added, although this sport was not taken into account in the PON medals, the implementation was the same as the PON implementation.

"We are proud to have outstanding athletes who are able to raise the name of West Kalimantan on the national stage by raising the banner of West Kalimantan's sports in Papua. They are West Kalimantan's future assets for PON XXI Aceh and North Sumatra," he said as quoted by ANTARA.

In participating in this exhibition, of the 11 sports competed, West Kalimantan only fielded four sports, namely traithlon, e-sports, hapkido and sambo. "By participating in this exhibition, at least we already know the opponent's strength in the upcoming XXI PON and at the same time mental and ability tests for our athletes, in the future KONI West Kalimantan will certainly pay more serious attention to its development," said Suhadi.
