UFC Transgender Fighter Criticism Alana McLaughlin, O'Malley: It's Dangerous For Women, It's Not Fair

JAKARTA - Alana McLaughlin successfully defeated Celine Provost in her UFC debut in early September. At first glance, it's normal. However, McLaughlin is transgender.

McLaughlin's appearance immediately received criticism from a number of UFC fighters. One of them, from the bantamweight Sean O'Malley.

Prior to his career in MMA (Mixed Martial Arts), McLaughlin was a member of the United States special forces more than a decade ago. After that, she started her treatment to become a woman.

O'Malley, through her podcast, explains how she doesn't believe this situation is right for female fighters.

"I don't think something like McLauighlin is okay competing in sports, I mean, especially mixed martial arts," O'Malley said.

"Looks like he's had testosterone for, who knows, 20 or 30 years of his life and now it's a girl.

"You could say it's a boy. A girl in thick clothes. I mean, look at her arms.

“If you want to play volleyball, football, go ahead. But in a sport where beating someone to the point of fainting, that's not allowed.

"It's dangerous for women. It's not fair."

O'Malley isn't the only fighter against McLaughlin. UFC middleweight Sean Strickland also told McLaughlin to "get out" of MMA with a rant.
