Softball Starts PON XX Papua Competition Today

The softball match was opened by throwing a ball from the Head of the Central KONI to be beaten by the Mayor of Jayapura.

JAKARTA - The first match of the XX National Sports Week (PON) 2021 will be held at the Agus Kafiar Softball Stadium, Cenderawasih University, Jayapura City, Wednesday, September 22 morning.

Several figures who were present at this important moment included the General Chairperson of the Central KONI Marciano Norman, the Chairman of the Supervisory and Steering Committee (Panwasrah) Dr. Suwarno, Head of Legality Soedarmo, Chair of the Daily PB PON XX Papua Yunus Wonda, Mayor of Jayapura Benhur Beni Mano, and Chair of the Jakarta City Cluster Panwasrah Panwasrah Andrie Tardiwan Utama Soetarno.

The men's softball contingents of Lampung and Southeast Sulawesi had a special opportunity to open the first match of PON XX. The match was opened by throwing a ball from the Head of the Central KONI to be beaten by the Mayor of Jayapura.

"Some time ago, many Indonesian people, our brothers and sisters in Papua are sports fans who are still sanctioned whether the National Sports Week can be held," Marciano said as quoted from the official KONI Central website.

"Thanks to the presence of God Almighty, Alhamdulillah this morning we are all standing on the softball field of the University of Cendrawasih, which is very proud to be part of witnessing a historic event that the 20th National Sports Week 2021 begins in Papua," he continued.

Not to forget, Marciano invited all parties to work together to fix the existing shortcomings rather than blaming each other. Not without reason. On Saturday, September 18, the completeness of the venue was still not sufficient. On that day, electricity and water still could not be used.

PON XX Papua will be officially opened by President Joko Widodo on 2 October.
