JAKARTA - Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has set an ambitious target which is to bring Manchester United to win the Champions League this season.

The Norwegian tactician believes the composition of his current team has the right mix of young talent with a team of experienced players to realize this ambition.

"For me personally, every time we enter this tournament is a step to the end," said Solskjaer.

"But we know it will be a tough journey, as it should be. We have brought in some experienced, quality and young talent players in the squad, hopefully we can prepare better than the others," he added.

Solskjaer has the full support of United's management in the transfer market this season by spending more than 120 million pounds (approximately Rp. 2.36 trillion) to bring in three big names namely Cristiano Ronaldo, Raphael Varane and Jadon Sancho.

While Sancho is a young addition to the Red Devils squad, Ronaldo's return and the purchase of Varane can provide experience and a capable winning mentality.

Varane and Ronaldo are members of the Real Madrid squad that won the Champions League four times, including three consecutive seasons in 2016-18.

Ronaldo himself had helped MU win the 2007/08 Champions League and was the all-time top scorer in the most prestigious competition in Europe.

"I think sometimes with young players you can go far, but in some games experience plays a different role."

Solskjaer and United's high targets will be tested with the opening of their Group F qualifier when they travel to Switzerland to face Young Boys on Tuesday local time.
