JAKARTA - AS Roma have signed striker Tammy Abraham who they redeemed for 40 million euros (approximately Rp676 billion) from Chelsea, the Italian club announced on Tuesday, August 17 today.

Roma also stated that there was an agreement on an additional transfer value clause that would later be paid to Chelsea, if the club's and Abraham's performances reached a certain level.

A number of European media reported that the additional value clause was 5 million euros (approximately IDR 84.5 billion).

Abraham signed a five-year contract and has him based at the Olimpico until 30 June 2026. The 23-year-old forward will wear the number 9.

"You can feel when a club really wants you, and Roma showed that interest clearly," Abraham said of his move.

"Roma is a club that deserves to be competing for titles and trophies. I've won prestigious trophies and I want to return to that kind of competition again.

"So my target is to help this team achieve that goal, to bring Roma to the level it should be."

Abraham is a product of the Chelsea academy, where he has trained at Cobham since the under-eight age group.

He broke into the first team two seasons ago early in Frank Lampard's tenure and has 30 goals in 82 games in all competitions for Chelsea.

Abraham became Roma's sixth signing since being handled by Jose Mourinho.

Roma have previously signed defender Bryan Reynolds, defender Roger Ibanez, goalkeeper Rui Patricio, striker Eldor Shomurudov and defender Matias Vina.

Roma will start their 2021/22 Italian League opener against Fiorentina at the Olimpico on Sunday, 22 August.

Earlier on Thursday, August 19, Roma will first travel to Turkey to face Trabzonspor in the first leg of the Conference League qualifying playoff.
