JAKATA - Indonesian tennis player Jessy Rompies finally won her first women's doubles title in the WTA 125 Thoreau Tennis Open 2021 series tournament in Concord, USA, Sunday local time.

This victory was achieved after Jessy, who was paired with Thailand's Peangtarn Plipuech, defeated Maitane Arconada (USA)/Catrina Bucsa (Spain) with a final score of 3-6, 7-6(5), [10-8].

"I'm really happy to finally win the WTA level," said Jessy in an official statement released by Antara, Monday, August 9.

"It's a relief to be able to go all-out today even though we have to play two straight games, semi-finals and finals. It's worth it," Jessy added.

Not only being the first WTA title, this victory also provides an additional 160 points that will affect the world rankings. In addition, Jessy is also entitled to an additional 2,500 US dollars, or around Rp. 36 million.

On the way, although not superior, Jessy/Plipuech were able to perform nicely. In the first round, they easily won over representatives of the United States Brittany Collens/Victoria Hu with a score of 6-1, 6-0.

Then in the quarter-finals, Jessy/Plipuech were able to beat third seed Kateryna Bondarenko (Ukraine)/Tatjana Maria (Germany) with a score of 7-5, 6-3.

After that in the semifinals, they eliminated Galina Voskoboeva (Kazakhstan)/Vera Zvonareva (Russia) with a score of 4-6, 6-1, [11]-[9].

The last time an Indonesian tennis player emerged as a champion in a WTA tournament was in September 2003 in Bali. At that time, Angelique Widjaja paired with Venezuelan tennis player Maria Vento to beat Australian/French Nicole Pratt/Emilie Loit with a score of 7–5, 6–2.

Jessy's journey in Uncle Sam's country still continues. He will return to participate in the ITF World Tennis Tour W100 Landisville tournament.

"It's going straight there because Earth has to play a singles qualifier tomorrow (Monday). It's about six hours away by car," said Jessy, the East Java mainstay tennis player at the XX Papua National Sports Week (PON).

Apart from Jessy, another tennis player from the Red and White team, Aldila Sutjiadi, will also enliven the tournament entitled Koser Jeweler Tennis Challenge with a total prize of 100,000 US dollars.
