Recovering From Injury, Jorge Martin Immediately Takes Pole Position GP Styrian

JAKARTA – Pramac Rookie rider Jorge Martin won pole position for the second time during MotoGP 2021. He even set a new lap record at the Spielberg Grand Prix Styrian. This result was obtained, after the leader of the standings Fabio Quartararo, his timing had to be cancelled

This is Martin's second pole position after the first achieved at the Doha GP at the start of this year's racing season. At the Red Bull Ring circuit, Belgium, on Saturday, August 7, Martin posted the first lap in under 1 minute 22.99 seconds to take the top position.

While Quartararo, who actually had a better lap time, had to be canceled because his bike had exceeded the track limit.

After missing four races through injury, this weekend's Styrian GP marks Martin's sixth MotoGP start to the season. Martin has a great chance to win this series because of the Red Bull Ring Circuit, known for its fast track that will exploit the power of the Ducati engine.

But Yamaha also showed a pretty good performance at this circuit. It was proven that Quartararo, had led the fastest time in the qualifying session, before finally being canceled.

Fabio Quartararo didn't play around in his opening lap lap. He was almost six tenths ahead of his Yamaha teammate Maverick Vinales by 1m23,259s on his first lap.

The leader then rose to 1m23.075s to extend his lead, although this lap was threatened by Martin from Pramac before the Ducati rider made a mistake at the penultimate corner and his time was cancelled.

After the first lap in Q2, Quartararo led Ducati duo Jack Miller and Martin, by 0.225 seconds ahead of the timesheets.

With just under four minutes remaining, Ducati's Francesco Bagnaia beat Quartararo by 1m23.038s. But this did not last long because Martin was able to make a record of 1m22,994s.

Quartararo continued to cut time on his deficit from Martin in his final lap and posted 1m22,958s to beat Martin.

But the Yamaha rider came off the side of the lap at Turn 9 and off the track limit, which caused his time on the lap to be canceled and put him in third position.

Meanwhile Bagnaia from Ducati will start from second place in the factory team after losing pole by a margin of 0.044 seconds. Team mate Jack Miller followed in the second or fourth row.

World champion Joan Mir achieved her best qualifying result of the season by finishing fifth on her Suzuki GSX-RR. The motorbike is now equipped with a ride height adjustment device.

Johann Zarco was sixth and Aprilia's Aleix Espargaro led the third row in seventh ahead of Marc Marquez. The former MotoGP world champion from Spain had an accident at Turn 3, but he was not seriously injured and his Honda bike only suffered a little damage.

Yamaha's Maverick Vinales was in ninth place, even though in FP3 he could be the third fastest. This is not a good result for the Spaniard.
