JAKARTA - Simone Biles, via her Instagram account Friday morning, explained the circumstances that caused her to withdraw from the women's team final, Tuesday, and the women's all-around final, Thursday.
"To anyone who said I quit. I didn't stop," she wrote on Instagram Story. "My mind and body are out of sync."
A subsequent video showed the 24-year-old trying to get an uneven bar down onto a soft mat, but the video was later removed, the official Olympic website reported.
"I don't think you realize how dangerous this can be on a hard/competitive surface," he wrote.
"Nor do I need to explain why I put health first. Physical health is mental health."
Biles, later, explained that he didn't have that problem before leaving for the Tokyo Olympics. However, the problem arose after the qualifying round.
"It unexpectedly started happening after the preliminary competition, literally the next morning," he said.
In a question-and-answer feature on Instagram Stories, he called the phenomenon "the weirdest and weirdest thing."
"I've had it before. It wasn't fun to deal with," he said of the "twisties," which he said bothered him at Tuesday's game.
"To be honest it's really scary trying to do it... not having mind and body in sync."
The beautiful gymnastics match continued on Sunday, August 1, the first of the three final days. Biles has qualified for all four numbers but could not say how long the "twisties" -- a mental block state in which a gymnast is suddenly unable to land safely -- could affect her.
When asked 'how long does it usually take.' "Honestly, nobody knows," said Biles.
