JAKARTA - MotoGP racer Andrea Iannone is in danger of getting tougher punishment after failing to pass a doping test. In tests conducted during the Malaysian GP series on November 3, Iannone's urine was found to contain a banned substance, namely Dros tanolone.

Iannone will receive the additional sentence if another lawsuit that has been filed by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) in the form of a four-year suspension is granted by the Court of Abitrage for Sport (CAS).

"The procedural timeline has been determined regarding the filing of the lawsuit," said the CAS statement. Launching motorpsort.com, Tuesday, June 10.

"There is no trial schedule to hear the statements of the related parties," the statement continued.

Iannone was given an 18-month racing ban by the International Motorcycle Racing Federation (FIM) on April 1, 2020 after failing a urine test. The penalty runs until June 16, 2021 for Iannone, whose Aprilia contract expires at the end of the 2020 racing season.

Iannone insisted his innocence and the banned substance entered his body through contaminated meat. He filed a lawsuit against the sentence he received.

Since 2018 Iannone has joined Aprilia but his form has struggled to match team-mate Alex Espargaro.

The 2020 MotoGP season has not yet rolled out due to the COVID-19 impact and operators hope that the competition will start soon in Jerez on July 19.
