Hendra/Ahsan Escapes Aaron/Soh's Pressure In Tokyo Olympics Second Match, Wins Two Live Games

JAKARTA - Indonesia's men's doubles Hendra Setiawan/Mohammad Ahsan managed to overcome the pressure presented by the Malaysian pair Aaron Chia/Wooi Yik Soh in their second appearance in the preliminary round of Group D Badminton Tokyo 2020 Olympics, Monday.

Within 34 minutes, The Daddies, who are the second ranked men's doubles in the world, won 21-16, 21-19 in the match which took place at Musashino Forest Sport Plaza, Tokyo.

The first game took place at a slow tempo, both partners seemed to be still adapting to the match situation. Their points are also often obtained thanks to hitting mistakes made by both partners.

Aaron/Wooi Yik had time to attack to catch up, but Hendra/Ahsan managed to overcome and maintain the lead until the opening game was over.

In the second game the tempo of the game changes. Long rally, hard hitting and accurate coloring the second game which lasted for 18 minutes.

The match in this game was also tense when The Daddies, who had taken the lead, fell behind when the score was 4-3.

Aaron/Wooi Yik even managed to maintain their dominance up to a score of 12-7. Slowly Hendra / Ahsan tried to catch up by adding points one by one until they finally turned 15-12 ahead.

For a while Hendra/Ahsan controlled the match, plus Aaron/Wooi Yik's game got out of control and made mistakes in Indonesia's favor.

However, when match points were 20-17, it was Hendra/Ahsan's turn to make two consecutive mistakes, thus narrowing the score difference to 20-19.

Luckily, Wooi Yik made a mistake when his punch hit the net which contributed a closing point for The Daddies' victory.

Furthermore, in the final match of the Group D preliminary round, The Daddies will meet South Korean representatives, namely Solgyu Choi/Seungjae Seo on Tuesday, at 10.40 WIB.
