JAKARTA - Two athletic athletes, Muhamad Zohri and Alvin Tehupeiory, were the last members of the Indonesian contingent to depart for Tokyo for the 2020 Olympics from Terminal 3 of Soekarno-Hatta Airport, Jakarta, Saturday night.

Both Zohri and Alvin hope to score the best in their first Olympics. Moreover, the preparations made are quite mature, including in overcoming the pandemic. All teams that traveled to Japan have tested negative for COVID-19.

“I hope that the Indonesian people will continue to support me and keep praying for me. Hopefully at the Olympics tomorrow I can give my best for Indonesia, and hopefully I can perform optimally for Indonesia," said Zohri in an official statement from NOC Indonesia.

Zohri's compatriot, Alvin Tehupeiory, who took part in the women's 100 M also hopes for support and prayers from the Indonesian people so that they can give their best in the Olympics later. Alvin also has his own target to improve his personal time record and break the record of Irene Truitje Joseph, his senior.

“My hope is that at this Olympics I can improve my personal record. And if God allows, I also want to break Kak Irene's record,” said Alvin excitedly.

Then Muhammad Zohri will compete in the men's 100 meters which is scheduled to compete on July 31, while Alvin will compete in the women's 100 meters which will compete on July 30.

The final group of the Indonesian contingent also included the Secretary General of NOC Indonesia Ferry Kono, Deputy CdM for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, a member of the Executive Committee of NOC Indonesia and two members of the support team.

Deputy Secretary General of the Indonesian Olympic Committee Wijaya Noeradi said before leaving all members of the group had undergone stages ranging from quarantine to PCR tests.

"The contingent departing today can be confirmed to be in good health and have carried out a series of PCR tests, the results of which are negative for COVID-19," he said.

"We ask for prayers from all Indonesian people for the success of the Indonesian contingent at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Moreover, today Indonesia has won a bronze medal from the weightlifting sport through our young athlete, Windy Cantika, who competed in the 49 kilogram class," concluded Wijaya Noeradi.

Athletic athletes were deliberately placed in the last group considering they had only competed on July 31. This is done to maintain health and avoid unnecessary risks because Zohri has the potential to win a medal for Indonesia.
