Men's Basketball National Team Solid Schedule Towards FIBA Asia Cup 2021 Qualifications

JAKARTA - The Indonesian men's basketball national team has yet to begin preparations for the second qualifying round of the FIBA Asia Cup 2021. The players were suspended and the coach, Rajko Toroman, is reportedly returning to his home country, Serbia.

Currently, the Indonesian men's basketball national team has to be 'dismissed' considering that the COVID-19 outbreak is still rampant and there is no green light from the government. However, a busy schedule awaits the ranks of the coaching team if everything returns to normal.

The reason is, the Indonesian basketball national team will undergo the FIBA Asia Cup 2021 Qualification starting next November. That is, preparations must be made after conditions allow.

As quoted from the IBL's official website, the men's basketball national team's initial plan was to hold a training program as well as player re-selection in June 2020. However, it had to be postponed in August because COVID-19 could not be handled.

In the same month, a training camp (TC) will be held in Taiwan. This is one of the preparations for the 2021 FIBA Asia Cup Qualification.

Later, there are only 15 players selected to defend the men's basketball national team. Most of the Indonesian Patriots players will compete in the Indonesian Basketball League this season.

Reported by the official FIBA website, Monday, June 8, the Indonesian men's basketball team will begin the second round of the 2021 FIBA Asia Cup Qualification by facing Thailand on 27 November. Three days later, it was South Korea's turn to be the opponent of the Red and White squad.

The next qualifying match will take place in February 2021. Indonesia will face the Philippines (18 February) and Thailand (21 February).

Currently, the Indonesian men's basketball team occupies the position in Group A. Of the two matches that have been played, the Red and White squad lost twice, namely against Korea (76-109) and the Philippines (70-100).
