JAKARTA - ATP world number one Novak Djokovic made history by winning his 20th Grand Slam title at Wimbledon 2021, cementing his place with Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal in the most major tournament titles.

The Serbian won the grasscourt Grand Slam title for the sixth time, and the third time in a row. In the final, he defeated the seventh seed from Italy Matteo Berrettini 6-7, 6-4, 6-4, 6-3 in a match which took place at the center court of the All England Club, London, Sunday.

Having also won this year's Australian Open French Open, Djokovic is one Grand Slam short of a Golden Slam title. In addition, no male player has ever won four Grand Slams and one Olympic gold in the same year, as reported by Reuters on Monday, July 12.

The only one to have ever played a Golden Slam - the title sweeping four Grand Slams plus an Olympic gold medal in the same year - was Germany's Steffi Graf in 1988.

Djokovic enters the final with a record of two wins in the previous meeting against Berrettini.

In the first set she opened up a 5-2 lead with an early break, but the Italian came back to force the tiebreak she grabbed to secure the opening set.

In the second set, Djokovic reacted by playing a fast tempo and leading 4-0 before ending it equally.

One break of service in the third set and two more breaks in the fourth set were enough for Djokovic to close the match in a crowded arena.

Djokovic sealed the win on match point three when Berrettini's backhand hit the net.
