PON XX Papua Socialization Meeting, KONI: The Echo Must Vibrate Throughout Indonesia

JAKARTA - The implementation of the XX Papua National Sports Week (PON) 2021 will take place on October 2-15, 2021. This means that only 3 months more for the Indonesian people to witness the XX Papua PON.

The chairman of the Central Indonesian National Sports Committee (KONI), Lt. Gen. (Ret.) Marciano Norman hopes that the heads of the Provincial and Regency/City KONIs support and prepare as much as possible the agendas that have been made by the XX PON big committee. This is to ensure the success of the four-yearly national sports week event.

"How do the echoes of the 20th National Sports Week 2021 vibrate throughout Indonesia," said Marciano in his opening remarks at the online socialization meeting for PON XX Papua 2021, Thursday, July 8.

Marciano revealed that he recently participated in the inauguration of the Indonesian National Team which will go to the Olympics in Tokyo, Japan. He said the implementation of health protocols in Tokyo was very strict during this pandemic.

"That's why I always use the Tokyo Olympics as one of our references to keep going well at the 2021 National Sports Week," he said.

Marciano agreed that the PON and KONI committee in the field of public relations must organize communication with the public, especially the materials that were launched related to the implementation of the XX Papua PON. He hopes that each province will be given the opportunity for its outstanding athletes and superior athletes to be appointed to the surface.

"So that people know that Jambi is the leading athlete, what sport, Sumatra is the leading athlete, from Aceh who, Maluku is the leading athlete. So I hope that new icons will be born from our sports athletes who are the pride of the Indonesian people, "explained Marciano.

In 2032, said Marciano, Indonesia will host the Olympics. So, now is a good time to raise the results of sports coaching carried out by the regency/city - provincial KONI as well as the central KONI, in collaboration with sports branches to carry out government policies issued by the Minister of Youth and Sports.

"This is an effort to provide sports lovers with continuous and quality news. So it must be supported by a good broadcasting system, a good streaming system so that wherever they are they can use their communication tools to always follow the activities. National Sports Week in Papua," he explained.

Speaking of security issues, Marciano admitted that the situation in Papua is very dynamic. But he is confident that the XX Papua PON will run safely, comfortably and successfully.

"Believe me that the Governor of Papua, Mr. Lukas Enembe and his staff, the Pangdam Cenderawasih, the Kapolda Papua and the entire Papuan people they are determined to be good hosts in the implementation of this PON. Therefore they will work together to maintain a safe and comfortable security situation in Papua for all athletes who come to Papua later," said Marciano.

For information, the Central KONI is currently preparing a media center in Jakarta for a gathering place for sports journalists and resource persons. This media center is a source of news about the implementation of PON XX Papua and minimizes false news or hoaxes.

It is hoped that publications on athlete preparation can motivate the wider community and can be integrated with the KONI media system. So that the XX Papua PON 2021 belongs to the Indonesian people. Because the news is not only about the center and the venue for the PON, but the contingent that will compete in Papua.
