Following The Premier League, Serie A Rolls Again June 20

JAKARTA - Italy's top football competition, which has been suspended since March due to the COVID-19 outbreak, will resume rolling on June 20. This was conveyed by Italian sports minister Vincenzo Spadafora in a statement.

After meeting with prime minister Giuseppe Conte, Spadafora announced on Thursday that the 2019-20 season will return next month.

Italian football will be opened by the Coppa Italia semi-final on June 13. A week later, Serie A followed.

"The league will restart on June 20 - I have consulted with the prime minister Conte. I hope we can finish the Coppa Italia in a week from June 13 to 20. This will be a signal in the interest of all Italians, given that this competition is shown in the public service ( television).

"My hopes for a return to the world of sport at the same time come true. We deny rumors that say I doubt football will ever return."

Juventus are one point ahead of Lazio at the top of the standings with 12 games remaining when the league season is suspended. They face Milan in the second leg of the Coppa semi-final in Turin on March 4. In the first leg, the match ended with the score 1-1.

Another semifinal is also ready to be held. Napoli, who won 1-0 over Inter Milan in the first leg, host Antonio Conte's men at the San Paolo.

News of a planned return to Italian football emerged after the Premier League announced plans to resume the 2019-20 season on June 17, also after being suspended in March.

The Bundesliga returned two weeks ago, while La Liga intends to start again in June. Of the top five European leagues, only Ligue 1 has declared the season over.
