JAKARTA - Serie A is estimated to suffer a loss of more than 700 million euros if the plan to return to competition is not realized. This was stated by the President of the Italian Football Federation (FIGC), Gabriele Gravina in an official statement.

Italy's top competition has been suspended since March due to the outbreak of COVID-19, and Gravina says the football division has suffered losses of more than 500 million euros.

As the FIGC prepares to meet with Spaghetti's State sports minister to discuss plans for a resumption of matches starting June 13, Gravina warned of the financial consequences of an extended suspension period.

"The task of the federation is to run football again and prevent an economic crisis that undermines Italy's passion for sport," Gravina told Riparte l'Italia magazine. Launch of Italian Football, Thursday, May 28.

"We are working with determination to ensure Italy as a country revives, including football, which is an important sector of work involving around 100,000 employees and generating revenue for the country.

"We have worked relentlessly with sports minister Vincenzo Spadafora, economy and finance minister Roberto Gualtieri and health minister Roberto Speranza, to create safe conditions for professional football to continue.

"This is because only by returning to the field can we stop an income collapse which in the short term will be more than 700 million euros. Losses of more than 500 million euros due to the outbreak of COVID-19 have already been experienced."

Meanwhile, Serie A club Bologna said an unnamed member of their staff was suspected of having contracted COVID-19. Thus, the entire squad will undergo training in isolated camps if the individual test tests positive.

A statement on the club's website said: "Recent tests carried out by the team group reveal a suspected positive case of COVID-19 in relation to a staff member.

"Waiting for further analysis, the team will continue training individually and at different times tomorrow as a precautionary measure, without using a shared space.

"If confirmed positive, the team group will be kept in an isolated training camp."
