Start The Match Losing 4 Games In A Row, Jabeur Is The First Arab Female Tennis Player To Qualify For The Wimbledon Quarter-finals

JAKARTA - Tunisian Ons Jabeur became the first Arab woman to reach the Wimbledon quarter-finals with a 5-7, 6-1, 6-1 victory over seventh seed Iga Swiatek on Monday.

"I get to the second week of almost every Grand Slam. My target is to get to this quarter-final and get to the semifinals, or maybe the final. I'm enjoying my time at Wimbledon, really enjoying the grass," Jabeur told Reuters.

Jabeur started her match by losing four games in a row despite putting up a strong defensive position. But in the second set, she completely changed her strategy to put pressure on Swiatek.

The 26-year-old has now beaten three Grand Slam champions in this tournament. Previously, she knocked out five-time Wimbledon champion Venus Williams and Garbine Muguruza in impressive form.

Jabeur will play in her second Grand Slam quarter-final on Tuesday against second seed Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka. Jabeur has also qualified in the last eight of the 2020 Australian Open.

"It was an incredible feeling in Australia. I didn't expect to be in the quarter-finals then," she said.

After the match, Jabeur also said that she was congratulated by Roger Federer for her amazing game.

"Actually I got congratulations from Roger (Federer) after the game which he thought was amazing. It was very inspiring and gave me a hunger to win more," she said.
