The COVID-19 Pandemic Is Not Under Control, The AFC Cancels The 2022 U-17 Women's Asian Cup In Indonesia

JAKARTA - The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) has canceled the 2022 U-17 Women's Asian Cup which was scheduled to take place in Indonesia.

Quoted from Antara from the AFC's official website in Jakarta, Monday, the decision was taken by the AFC Executive Committee after considering the recommendation from the AFC Women's Football Committee requesting the tournament to be canceled because the COVID-19 pandemic has not yet been controlled.

In addition to the 2022 U-17 Women's Asian Cup, the AFC also canceled the 2022 U-20 Women's Asian Cup in Uzbekistan. The Indonesian women's national team is also planned to appear in the tournament.

Both competitions will be held again in 2024 with the same host.

However, the AFC has not planned to postpone the 2022 Women's Asian Cup Qualifiers which will be held on September 13-25, 2021.

However, the AFC opens up the possibility of a schedule change as everything will be adjusted to the challenges of the hosts' qualification, team travel, quarantine and medical regulations in the countries concerned.

Indonesia itself will host the 2022 Women's Asian Cup Qualification Group C. In addition to the Garuda Pertiwi squad, the group also includes North Korea, Singapore and Iraq.

The 2022 Women's Asian Cup will take place in India from 20 January to 6 February 2022.

​​​​The Indonesian women's national team, which is coached by Rudy Eka Priyambada, continues to prepare for various international tournaments, including the 2021 SEA Games.

Most recently, the women's national team has just completed the training camp (TC) in Jakarta on 23 June-2 July 2021.
