JAKARTA - Frank de Boer has left the coach of the Dutch national team after failing to meet his targets at Euro 2020.

Team Orange's move was stopped in the round of 16 after being defeated by the Czech Republic in Budhapest, Sunday, June 27. Dutch national team De Boer previously had a minimum target of reaching the quarter-finals.

The decision was taken after De Boer met with two directors of the Dutch football federation, Nico-Jan Hoogma and Eric Gudde, at Zeist, Tuesday, 29 June.

"Before the evaluation, I decided not to continue my duties as coach of the national team. The target was not achieved, that's clear," said De Boer on the Dutch national team's official website, quoted by Antara.

De Boer admits the pressure he has experienced since accepting the job with the Dutch national team has increased following the failure at Euro 2020.

"It's not a healthy situation for me, nor is the squad going into important matches in qualifying for the 2022 World Cup," he said.

"I thank everyone, of course the fans and the players," said De Boer.

De Boer took over as coach of the Dutch national team since September 23, 2020, replacing Ronald Koeman, who was hijacked by Barcelona a month earlier.

Throughout his tenure De Boer guided the Netherlands to eight wins and four draws in 15 official matches.

The Netherlands swept to victory in the group stage of Euro 2020, although their performance did not escape criticism and hopes of a resurgence of Team Orange - who missed the previous two prestigious tournaments - were crushed by old enemies in the Czech Republic in the round of 16.
