JAKARTA - Serie A clubs will find out their fate regarding the continued schedule for the 2019-2020 season on May 28. However, the Spaghetti Country government has approved the resumption of group training.
Last week, Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte gave Italian League clubs the green light to resume full training on Monday, 18 May. However, it was later postponed due to further disagreement between the government and the Italian Football Federation (FIGC) over the medical protocol.
The authorities concerned seem to have found common ground now. Sports minister Vincenzo Spadafora said the government's Technical Scientific Committee (CTS) had approved the latest protocol.
He also confirmed the meeting on May 28 will determine whether the 2019-20 Serie A season will continue or not. The competition has been suspended since March due to the COVID-19 pandemic and cannot return until at least June 15.
"Group training can be continued," Spadafora told Rai 2 quoted from the Italian Football, Wednesday, May 20. "Several evaluations have been carried out and the FIGC is available to review the first proposal.
"Today, the situation allowed us to preview less strict rules. When conditions were better, it is true that the world of football also has lighter rules to recover safely.
"I scheduled a meeting for May 28 at 3pm with the president, [Gabriele] Gravina and [Paolo] Dal Pino [of FIGC and Lega Serie A, respectively].

"I believe that next Thursday we will have all the data available to be able to decide if and when the championship will restart.
"May 28th is the date when it will be known if the championship will restart."
Italy has confirmed 226,699 positive cases and 32,169 deaths from COVID-19. This makes them one of the hardest-hit countries in the world.
However, the death and infection rates have dropped significantly recently and bars and cafes have started to reopen in some parts of the country.
