Fulfilling Target, Indonesian Men's Archery Team Qualifies For Tokyo Olympics

JAKARTA - The Indonesian men's archery team has secured tickets for the men's team recurve number for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics after securing a place in the 2021 Archery Qualification final which will be held in Paris, France, Sunday, June 19 WIB.

Riau Ega Agatha Salsabila, Arif Dwi Pangestu and Alviyanto Bagas Prastyadi dominated with a 6-0 score over Ukraine in the semifinal which took place at the Charlety Stadium.

“Congratulations to Ega, Arif, and Bagas. Your achievements are good news for all Indonesian people. In the COVID-19 situation, Indonesian athletes have proven extraordinary struggles so that currently the number of Indonesian athletes who will go to Tokyo is the same as the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics, "said Chairman of the Indonesian Olympic Committee (NOC Indonesia) Raja Sapta Oktohari, Sunday.

Okto, Raja Sapta Oktohari's nickname, hopes that the success of the Indonesian Arjuna trio can be followed by the women's team. Today, Monday, three Indonesian heroes, namely Diananda Choirunisa, Titik Kusuma Wardani, and Rezza Oktavia will start their struggle to win the women's team recurve ticket.

Currently, Indonesian archery has secured a ticket in the women's individual recurve number. It was Nisa, Diananda's nickname, who got it through her performance at the 2018 Jakarta-Palembang Asian Games.

"I am sure, our three heroines will also give their best performances so that the number of athletes at the Tokyo Olympics can exceed the previous Olympics," continued Okto.

Separately, Arif said he was grateful that the target of getting tickets for the Tokuyo Olympic team number was able to be fulfilled. The Men's Recurve team started their journey in Paris by crushing Bangladesh 6-0, winning 5-1 over Italy, and beating Ukraine 6-0.

"We are very happy with this result. Because, we can bring the name of the Indonesian men's recurve team to the Tokyo Olympics,” said Arif in an interview after the match.

With this result, the total number of Indonesian athletes who will compete in the Tokyo Olympics is confirmed to be 28 athletes. Here's the full list:
