Garuda Squad Defeated By Vietnam 4-0, PSSI Chairman: This Defeat Must Be Evaluated

JAKARTA - The Indonesian national team must recognize Vietnam's superiority with a 4-0 score in the 2022 World Cup Qualifiers at the Al Maktoum Stadium, Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE), Monday, June 7 local time.

In the first half, Evan Dimas and his friends still played a goalless draw. However, in the second half, four Vietnamese goals scored by Nguyen Tien Linh in the 51st minute, Nguyen Quang Hai (62'), Nguyen Cong Phuong (67'), and Vu Van Thanh (74') made the Garuda squad lose.

Regarding this result, the General Chairperson of PSSI, Mochamad Iriawan, continues to encourage the players and officials of the Indonesian national team. He said the players had struggled, but Vietnam played better and eventually came out victorious.

"This defeat must be evaluated by the coaching team and used as a lesson so that in the next match we can achieve positive results. Players must remain focused, disciplined, and get up in the last match against the United Arab Emirates later," said Iriawan as quoted from the official PSSI website.

As long as the Indonesian national team underwent training camps (TC) and the 2022 World Cup Qualification matches, the PSSI chairman continued to give enthusiasm and attention to players, coaches, and officials to keep fighting.

With this result, Indonesia is still the caretaker in Group G with a score of one point. As is known in the previous six matches, Evan Dimas and his friends suffered five defeats and one draw.

Next, Indonesia will face the host United Arab Emirates (UAE) at the Zabeel Stadium, Dubai, Friday, June 11 at 20:45 local time.
