Flick reminds Barcelona of losing possession against Elche

Barcelona coach Hans-Dieter "Hansi" Flick reminded his players that they had lost dominantly against Elche, ahead of the two teams' meeting in the 2025/2026 Spanish League, Sunday (1/2) early morning WIB.

"At the first league meeting, they controlled the ball more than us," said Flick, quoted from the Barcelona website, Saturday.

When meeting with Elche in the first meeting in the 2025/2026 Spanish League, early November 2025, the host Barcelona did win with a score of 3-1.

However, the league noted that Elche was superior in ball possession, namely 51 percent compared to 49 percent. According to Flick, this is inseparable from the cold hand of Elche coach Eder Sarabia.

"He's done a fantastic job. I like their game. They are brave and create a lot of chances. I also enjoy the moments of analyzing and watching their performances," said Flick.

Therefore, the German tactician asked his players to focus when playing at the Manuel Martinez Valero Stadium, Elche.

Flick wants Lamine Yamal and his friends to win the game to continue to lead the Spanish League standings this season.

"The most important thing is focus. The attitude, the mentality of the team is very good and that is one of our strengths," he said.

Regarding the condition of his squad, Flick ensured that his players were in a ready-to-play condition except for Pedri, Gavi and Andreas Christensen who were injured.

He also praised two of his young players who came from La Masia, Marc Bernal (18 years) and Marc Casado (22 years). Flick considers them to be an important part of Barcelona's main squad.

"I am happy with Casado and Bernal's attitude. Bernal is a vital player and has done a good job. However, he must go step by step. Be patient and continue to work hard to improve. We will help him as much as possible," said Flick.

Barcelona is currently at the top of the 2025/2026 Spanish League standings with 52 points from 21 points, only one point behind second-placed Real Madrid.

Elche is now in 12th place with 24 points from 21 games.
