JAKARTA - Jake Paul has been named the third highest paid boxer on the planet for the past 12 months. He is only richer than Canelo Alvarez and Anthony Joshua.

Paul has shocked the world of fist fighting after the YouTuber has been active in boxing in recent years. He earned his first professional win over fellow online sensation AnEsonGib in January 2020.

He then followed up with explosive knockout victories against former NBA player Nate Robinson and former UFC star Ben Askren.

And according to figures from sports finance aggregator Sportico, the American earned around £14m from those last two fights, plus some off-the-ring earnings.

This means that Paul is currently the third-highest-earning boxer for the past year, only behind superstars Canelo and Joshua.

Joshua, who recently missed out on a potential £75m deal to face Tyson Fury in a heavyweight fight this summer, is the second-highest earner on the list.

The two men followed in the footsteps of Canelo, who is the only boxer to make the top 100 of the sport's highest-earning stars.

The Mexican has fought three fights in the last six months, beating British pair Callum Smith and Billy Joe Saunders as well as eliminating underdog Avni Yildrim.

Mentioned in the list, Canelo has earned around £44.5 million (Rp899.1 billion) over the past year, making him 12th in the top 100 for all sports.

Another fighting sports star, Conor McGregor, sits at the top of the list with reported earnings of £ 147 million.

Nearly 90 percent of the UFC icon's earnings come from outside the ring, as he has only fought once over the past 12 months against Dustin Poirier at UFC 257.

Football legends Lionel Messi with £ 89 million (IDR1.79 trillion) and Cristiano Ronaldo with £ 85 million (IDR1.71 trillion) are next on the list. Then followed by NFL star Dak Prescott £ 76 million (Rp 1.53 trillion) and basketball superstar LeBron James £ 72 million (Rp 1.45 trillion).
