JAKARTA - The Indonesian Badminton Association (PBSI) will hold a national selection (seleknas) at the beginning of next month as part of the selection of athletes to enter the Cipayung National Training Center (Pelatnas).
The activity will take place on February 3-7, 2026 at the Majeh Arena Wadas, Karawang, West Java. The selection was attended by 80 best athletes in the cadet category (U-19) who met the provisions set by the PBSI.
Head of PBSI's Coaching and Achievement Division, Eng Hian, emphasized that the selection is an integral part of the national achievement coaching system which is carried out in stages and continuously.
"Through this selection, PBSI ensures that the screening process for young athletes is carried out objectively, measured, and based on achievements, as an initial step towards coaching at the PBSI Pelatnas," Eng Hian said in a statement received.
The national selection participants include singles and doubles athletes who won the 2025 National Championship (Kejurnas) for the Individual Taruna Division I of the PBSI, with the exception of athletes who have been recruited into the PBSI Cipayung National Team.
In addition, this activity was also attended by athletes born in 2007 and later who were ranked 15th best national cadets (U-19) in each sector with the ranking calculation used being as of December 24, 2025, after the implementation of the 2025 PBSI National Championship.
In addition to the selection route, PBSI also determined that three young athletes, Mayla Cahya Afilian Pratiwi (Mutiara Cardinal Bandung) from the women's singles sector and Alexius Ongkytama Subagio/Aquino Evano Keneddy Tangka (Djarum Kudus) from the men's doubles sector, joined directly to the PBSI Pelatnas.
The three were recruited based on the consistent achievements that have been shown throughout 2025 as well as the results of monitoring the PBSI talent guidance team so that they were judged to have met the Cipayung Pelatnas coaching criteria.
"The selection criteria referring to the results of the National Games, national rankings, and talent guidance team monitoring are designed to ensure that the selected athletes not only have current achievement achievements, but also long-term development potential in accordance with the direction of PBSI achievement coaching," said Eng Hian.
For doubles, athletes are allowed to exchange partners with the provision that the pair is in the top 16 of the national ranking, as well as a written agreement between the athlete and the Badminton Association (PB).
Athletes who are monitored by the PBSI talent guidance team (Potential) can also be included as national team participants even though they are outside the top 16 of the national ranking.
Meanwhile, for doubles athletes who have more than one partner and are both in the top 16 of the national ranking, the athlete must choose one partner to be registered for the selection.
As a confirmation of the commitment to coaching achievements, single and double athletes who come out as champions of the 2026 PBSI selection must meet the call to enter the PBSI Pelatnas without any conditions.
