JAKARTA - The Ministry of Youth and Sports (Kemenpora) has disbursed support funds worth more than IDR 10.4 billion to the Indonesian Badminton Association (PBSI) to help maintain the tradition of gold medals at the Olympics.

The support was given in the form of gymnasium and sport science equipment. The handover ceremony was held at the National Training Center (Pelatnas) of the Indonesian Badminton Association (PBSI) Cipayung, East Jakarta, on Wednesday, January 28, 2026.

The Secretary of the Ministry of Youth and Sports (Sesmenpora), Gunawan Suswantoro, said that the assistance was aimed at supporting the badminton sports branch that had achieved success in the 2028 Olympics and could also restore the tradition of gold medals.

"The government is consistent in providing support to PBSI and other priority sports branches. PBSI has great potential to reach the Olympics. We are consistent in providing assistance in terms of facilities and infrastructure," said Gunawan.

The handover of assistance was carried out by Gunawan Suswantoro to the General Chairman of PBSI, Fadil Imran. This support for facilities and infrastructure is divided into two main sectors to support the physical and scientific monitoring of athlete performance.

The support in the form of gymnasium equipment is worth Rp. 7.96 billion and sports science equipment is worth Rp. 2.48 billion. This equipment is expected to support the preparation of athletes to face the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.

"We hope that the equipment provided can be used to the maximum. The message from the Minister (Youth and Sports Erick Thohir) and the President (Prabowo Subianto) is that in 2028 we must achieve gold," said Gunawan.

Fadil Imran welcomed the assistance. He said that the government's attention was part of the transformation of the national achievement coaching system, which was very important to pursue great achievements on the international stage.

He also ensured that all equipment received by his party would be managed professionally and responsibly.

"Every state support must really lead to an increase in the quality of training and athlete health. We want to ensure that Indonesia continues to have a tradition of achievements until the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics," he said.

Badminton previously failed to continue the tradition of gold medals at the 2024 Olympics in Paris. At that time, the only bronze medal from the sport was won by Gregoria Mariska Tunjung.
