Indonesia Masters 2026: Alwi Guards the Hope of the Host's Men's Singles

JAKARTA - Alwi Farhan managed to pass the quarterfinal of the 2026 Daihatsu Indonesia Masters to keep the host's men's singles hopes alive in the BWF Super 500 level event.

The 2023 junior world champion completed the match in two straight games against Yushi Tanaka of Japan, which ended with a score of 22-20 and 21-16 on Friday, January 23, 2026.

"Alhamdulillah, I am very blessed today. I am not in 100 percent condition, but I try to bring out the spirit that exists. Thanks to the prayers of the Indonesian people, especially those at Istora," said Alwi after the match.

Alwi actually fell behind 17-20 in the first game, but managed to recover to tie the score and then win dramatically.

Furthermore, at the beginning of the second game, the match was again tight and Alwi was 3-7 behind. However, he was able to rise and make the score 10-10 then unstoppable after the break.

"Believe it or not, the noisy voice that was there really helped me not to despair even though I was behind in the first game," said the 20-year-old shuttler.

Alwi, who has the status of the eighth seed, will next face Chi Yu Jen. The Chinese Taipei men's singles badminton player secured a semi-final ticket after defeating Jia Heng Jason Teh (Singapore).

"I've never met Chi Yu Jen before, but, yes, we both play often at the top level. Whoever his opponent is tomorrow, the most important thing is that I focus on recovery," said Alwi.
