2026 World Cup Ticket Demand Exceeds 500 Million

FIFA said the demand for tickets for the 2026 World Cup exceeded 500 million (Instagram/@fifa).

JAKARTA - FIFA said on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, local time, that they had received more than 500 million ticket requests for the 2026 World Cup.

FIFA said that outside host nations the United States, Mexico, and Canada, the most requests were submitted by fans living in Germany, England, Brazil, Spain, Portugal, Argentina, and Colombia.

FIFA is selling tickets for up to $8,680. After criticism, FIFA said last month that it would offer tickets for $60 each match to the 48 national federations in the tournament.

The national federation will decide how to distribute it to their fans who attended the previous matches.

The most requested match in the third sales phase, which runs from December 11, 2025 to Tuesday, January 13, 2026, is Colombia vs Portugal on June 27, 2026 in Miami Gardens, Florida.

The second most requested was Mexico vs. South Korea on June 18, 2026 in Guadalajara, Mexico, followed by the final match which will take place on July 19, 2026 in East Rutherford, New Jersey.

The last two matches that are also much in demand are the opening match between Mexico and South Africa on June 11, 2026 in Mexico City and the second round match on July 2, 2026 in Toronto.

"Knowing how important this tournament is for people around the world, our only regret is that we can't welcome every fan inside the stadium."

"That's why we are committed to creating a variety of ways for fans to be part of the 2026 World Cup - through a variety of fan experiences outside the stadium, both in person and online - so that as many people as possible can share in the biggest sporting event ever held," FIFA President Gianni Infantino said in a statement.

FIFA said it would notify people of their ticket applications by Feb. 5, 2026 at the latest and would allocate tickets randomly for matches where demand exceeds availability.
