Nothing Can Keep Chiesa Going

JAKARTA - Fiorentina are open to selling Federico Chiesa if the striker wants to leave. So far, Serie A champions Juventus are in pole position for the services of the son of Italian legend Enrico Chiesa.

Chiesa is a player in demand after playing well for Fiorentina. Apart from Juve, there are names of Inter Milan, Manchester United and Chelsea who are reportedly interested.

The 22-year-old Italy international scored six goals and three assists in 23 Serie A appearances before the COVID-19 pandemic brought the season to a halt. The owner of the jersey number 25 is a product of the team's youth academy from Tuscany.

Recently, Fiorentina owner Rocco Commisso discussed the future of Chiesa. He also denied that his club had offered a new contract to the Viola I star.

"We have a meeting before Christmas, if I'm not mistaken," Commisso told Radio Bruno Toscana. Launch of the Italian Football, Tuesday, May 5.

"If he wants to leave then I'm sorry, but we will accommodate him, making an offer is fair enough. We also have to see what he deserves.

"(The price) may have dropped since last year. It should suit everyone, although there is a chance he will stay (in Firenze)."

Comisso explained that he had not made any offers to Chiesa. There are no proposals yet and what's more important is that Chiesa wants to stay at the Artemio Franchi.

"Many players understand that Fiorentina have high targets. I don't want to impose anything on Chiesa, he is a very good player," said the president.

"We have a very good relationship and I want to keep him. I want to do the right thing for Fiorentina and, if he wants to leave, we will accommodate him."

Commisso added: "There is Juventus, but there are other teams in Europe as well."
