JAKARTA - The Indonesian Badminton Association (PBSI) through the Training and Achievement Division (Binpres) officially abolished the promotion and relegation of athletes in the Cipayung National Training Center (Pelatnas) which is usually carried out at the end of the year.

The strategic decision regarding the direction of coaching was made after a thorough evaluation of the PBSI Pelatnas structure, athlete performance, competition load, and the effectiveness of long-term programs.

PBSI's Binpres Head, Eng Hian, said that this decision does not mean that the federation lowers the standard or eliminates evaluation. He ensured that an athlete's evaluation was determined by the key performance indicator (KPI) that had been determined by their respective coaches.

"If an athlete does not reach the KPI that has been set, they will be degraded. Therefore, the period of degradation for each athlete will be different depending on their respective KPIs," he said in a statement received.

As for the promotion system, it will be carried out through the PBSI national selection (seleknas) mechanism which will be carried out every beginning of the year.

The number of player recruitment must be in accordance with the criteria made by the PBSI Coaching and Achievement Division and adjusted to the needs of athletes at the Cipayung Training Center.

This decision is part of the re-arrangement of the coaching strategy to ensure that all PBSI Pelatnas athletes can strengthen the stability of coaching and maintain the continuity of the training program.

PBSI has previously established the organizational regulations (PO) 012 of 2025 which regulates provisions related to the recruitment, promotion, and degradation mechanisms of athletes and coaches of the Cipayung National Team.

The rules regulate the number of national team participants consisting of 16 singles athletes and 16 pairs of doubles athletes. The participants came from the National Youth (Kejuaaan Nasional) Taruna, the best national ranking, as well as athletes from the monitoring team of talent guides who meet administrative and age verification requirements.

"This regulation is a common reference so that every decision is based on performance, achievements, and measurable evaluations so that it can encourage the continuous improvement of Indonesian badminton achievements," said Eng Hian.
