Beat Moenchengladbach, Borussia Dortmund Try to Shadow Bayern Munich

Borussia Dortmund defeated Borussia Moenchengladbach 2-0, overshadowing the German Bundesliga standings leader Bayern Munich. The success of winning three points in the match at the Signal Iduna Park Stadium, Saturday, December 20, 2025 WIB, brought Dortmund to second place.

Dortmund heated up the top-flight competition even though they were still quite far behind Bayern. When playing at home, Dortmund had no trouble overcoming Gladbach through two goals from Julian Brandt and Maximilian Beier.

The victory made Dortmund overtake RB Leipzig after collecting 32 points. They are still six points behind Bayern who will visit Heidenheim's home, which is threatened with relegation because they are still struggling in the relegation zone.

However, Dortmund could not stay in that position for long. If Leipzig beats Bayer Leverkusen, then Dortmund, who is three points ahead but loses by a goal difference, will return to third place.

However, Leverkusen is clearly not an easy opponent for Leipzig who play at home. Moreover, Leverkusen who occupy the fourth position does not want to be thrown out of the Champions League zone.

Meanwhile, Gladbach is still struggling in the lower middle. They are ranked 11th with 16 points and only five points ahead of the team in the red zone.

In that match, Dortmund appeared full of confidence. The reason is that the host has a good record when meeting Gladbach. From 19 meetings, Die Borussen won 18 times.

This is what makes Niko Kovac's team immediately attacking the opponent's defense. As a result, Brandt has broken the Gladbach goal when the match only lasted 10 minutes.

Receiving an assist from Niklas Suele, he unleashed a volley that tore through Gladbach's net. This was Brandt's fourth goal in his last three matches.

The 1-0 advantage made Dortmund more aggressive in pressing the opponent's defense. However, the visiting team immediately fortified themselves so as not to concede again. The strategy was quite successful because the score remained until the first half ended.

In the second half, Dortmund did not slow down the pace of the game. They still played aggressively and even scored again through striker Serhou Guirassy. Only that goal was annulled because he was in an offside position.

After many failed attempts, Dortmund finally managed to add a goal when the match was only a few seconds away. This time Beier received a pass from substitute Fabio Silva.

There was no escort so Beier, standing free in the penalty box, calmly fired a directed kick to defeat goalkeeper Moritz Nicolas. The score changed 2-0 for Dortmund and lasted until the end of the match.

Kovac showed his satisfaction with the victory. "Of course we are happy to get some more points. The team also fought hard to get it," said Kovac, who admitted that the team had only shown consistency when entering the half of the competition.

"We only have a short time to prepare. Because we have to play in the Club World Cup. But now the team has improved," he said.
