JAKARTA The reviewer team is very optimistic that the Indonesian contingent can bring home a gold medal from the 2025 SEA Games which will take place in Thailand according to the targets that have been estimated and mutually agreed upon.

The Ministry of Youth and Sports (Kemenpora) and the review team determined that Indonesia could win 80 gold medals from the biennial multi-pronged sporting event. The sports (sports) that went there agreed with the target.

Del Asri, a member of the review team, said that they carried out a rigorous selection during the review process and various mature calculations before setting a potential sport for departure as well as a gold medal target.

"We negotiate to explain to each sport and invite both to think realisticly about the conditions of our strength in Southeast Asia competition," said Del Asri.

During the promotion process, the review team came directly to the national training center (national training camp), talking to coaches and athletes to listen to their wishes as well as assessing firsthand how the potential of each sport to win medals.

This transparent process made the sport agree on the medal target formulated by the review team and announced by the government.

The strict selection was carried out so that athletes who brought the nation's name were really the best who could potentially win medals. Their achievements are expected to be sustainable not only in the SEA Games, but also in the Asian Games to the Olympics.

Del hopes that the target of 80 gold medals that have been conveyed by Menpora Erick Thohir will be a trigger for athletes so that they can fight hard not only to meet the target.

"I hope the athletes as much as possible exceed the target given. We believe that the motivation and optimism of our contingent can lead Indonesia beyond the existing targets," he said.

The 2025 SEA Games, which are scheduled to take place on December 9-20, will take on 51 sports. Indonesia sent 996 athletes from 48 sports to compete in the White Elephant Country.

In the previous edition in Cambodia, Indonesia brought home 87 gold medals and managed to rank third in the final standings, behind Vietnam in first place and Thailand in second place.
