JAKARTA - Real Madrid manager, Xabi Alonso, supports his troops to turn things around this season, saying this season is still long, after they were held to a 1-1 draw by Girona on Monday, December 1, 2025, early morning WIB.

It was their third straight draw at LaLiga. As a result, this achievement made Los Blancos drop Barcelona from the top of the standings.

Real Madrid had fallen behind with Azzedine Ounahi's goal in the 45th minute in Montilivi, before Kylian Mbappe equalized from the penalty spot. Unfortunately, Alonso's side failed to turn things around.

Now, Real Madrid are one point behind Barcelona, which will host Atletico Madrid on Wednesday, December 3, 2025, early morning WIB.

"In the second half we performed better, we had more chances. We didn't clinically get the three points. However, it's been a very long season, we have to keep fighting," Alonso told a news conference after the game.

Real Madrid started the season well -- winning 10 of their first 11 league games -- but a draw in November 2025 against Rayo Vallecano, Elche, and now Girona, coupled with a defeat in the Champions League to Liverpool, has sparked doubts over Alonso's project.

However, the Spaniard dismissed that the situation at Real Madrid was precarious. He reminded that the condition of the dressing room was still calm.

"There are different phases in one season. At the beginning of (season), we were more consistent in away matches. The team was enthusiastic about rising after trailing 0-1 (at Girona)."

"We had three or four chances clear enough to score a second goal and win. I like the reaction (when left behind)."

"It wasn't enough, but we almost won. We have to stick together, with the criticism we need, want to win with so many away games."

"We have a chance on Wednesday (Thursday, December 4, 2025 WIB) in Bilbao (against Athletic Club). We'll see," said Alonso.

Alonso added that he had no criticism for his players after the performance. Instead, he highlighted the incident where substitute Rodrygo appeared to have been violated in the penalty box which was not reviewed by the referee.

"I haven't seen it yet, but I was told VAR should have reviewed it. Those are decisive moments, which can determine the outcome of the match," said Alonso.
