Indra Sjafri Is Not Sure To Deploy Abroad Players At The 2025 SEA Games

Dion Markx, one of the abroad players in the U-23 Indonesian national team, has not been confirmed to be able to play at the 2025 SEA Games (VOI/Ferry Tri Adi Sasono).

JAKARTA - The U-23 Indonesian national team coach, Indra Sjafri, revealed the status of an abroad player in his team. The coach did not guarantee their playing minutes during the 2025 SEA Games in December.

The main reason for Indra Sjafri is quite clear. You see, the 2025 SEA Games agenda is not included in the FIFA calendar. Therefore, Indra Sjafri did not dare to sign that the players who played in foreign clubs could be played in the SEA Games later.

"Yes, I have to clarify. All the abroad players, because the 2025 SEA Games are not FIFA Match Day, I can't confirm that (they) will actually join," said Indra Sjafri after the trial match at Pakansari Stadium, Bogor Regency, on Tuesday, November 18, 2025.

Apart from Ivar Jenner, Mauro Zijlstra, and Dion Markx who are currently in the team, PSSI is fighting for three other abroad players to defend Indonesia. These three players are Marselino Ferdinand (AS Trencin-Slovakia), Adrian Wibowo (Los Angeles FC-United States), and Team Geypens (FC Emmen-Netherlands).

Indra Sjafri also said that currently the General Chairperson of PSSI, Erick Thohir, is trying to lobby the foreign clubs to release their players to Indonesia at the 33rd edition of the Southeast Asian sports party.

"PSSI, in this case, the General Chairperson and his team are trying and we have submitted the letter to their respective clubs. Yes, hopefully we will be able to get good things later."

"So, don't say that Ivar and Marselino were certain, it's not certain. Therefore, we will release it later if it is really written that the PSSI letter to their respective clubs is officially replied to," said Indra Sjafri.
