JAKARTA The Indonesian kickboxing team has set a target to take all gold medals from the events competed in the 2025 SEA Games in Thailand at the end of the year.

Chef de Mission (CdM) of the Indonesian contingent, Bayu Priawan Djokosoetono, said that the Central Board of Kickboxing Indonesia (PP KBI) is very optimistic beyond the previous SEA Games achievements in 2023.

"They are very optimistic that of the eight athletes, all of them hope for a gold medal," he said on the sidelines of a visit to the kickboxing national training camp (pelatnas).

Thailand as the host of the biennial event reduced many match numbers in kickboxing (sports) so that only eight gold were contested, which included the categories of women and men.

This number has shrunk far from the previous in Cambodia in 2023, which won 17 gold medals. This year, the four contested numbers are point fighting, low kick, K1, and full contact.

The general chairman of PB KBI, Ngatino, said that the gold medal-winning numbers for Indonesia in Cambodia were also not contested, but there were athletes adapted to the events in Thailand.

"We must not be pessimistic. We are looking for athletes from the numbers adapted to those in Thailand," he said.

The eight athletes sent by Indonesia this year consisted of five sons and three daughters. One of them is Abdul Asiz Calim, a gold medal contributor in Cambodia.

Apart from Abdul Aziz Calim (men's 63 kg kick light), two other gold from Cambodia were donated by Diandra Ariesta Pieter (women's 55 kg kick light) and Toni Kristian Hutapea (full contact 54 kg).

The 2025 SEA Games in Thailand will take place on 9-20 December 2025. A total of 50 sports and 574 match numbers are contested.
