JAKARTA - Just hours after West Ham United sacked Graham Potter on Saturday (27/9) morning, the London club officially appointed Nuno Esp Sacrito Santo as their new head coach.

"West Ham United proudly announced the appointment of Nuno Espferito Santo as the head coach of our men's first team," read a club statement via the official website, reported by ANTARA, Saturday, September 27.

Nuno has signed a three-year contract with the Hammers and will lead his first match on Monday night as we travel to Everton's headquarters in the Premier League.

Potter, who was appointed last January, failed to bring the Hammers to a consistent appearance at the start of the 2025/26 season. A series of poor results made the club's management decide to make changes.

Nuno said he was happy to have the opportunity to coach West Ham and promised to improve his team's performance.

I am very happy to be here and feel proud to be on behalf of West Ham United. My goal is to work hard to get the best out of the team and ensure we can compete as hard as possible. Work has started, and I look forward to the challenges ahead."

The 51-year-old Portuguese coach last handled Nottingham Forest, where he successfully brought the club to finish in seventh place in the Premier League last season while ensuring a ticket to European competition.

However, he was released earlier this month after relations with club owners deteriorated following open criticism of the team's transfer strategy.

Prior to dealing with Forest, Nuno also coached Wolverhampton Wanderers and Tottenham Hotspur. Together with Wolves, he managed to bring the club promotion to the Premier League in 2018, then finished twice in seventh place to take the team to appear in European competitions.

This reputation makes Nuno one of Portugal's coaches who is quite influential in the English football scene.
