Roma Vs Lazio: Capital Wolves' Rampage Leads To Depletion Of Rivals' Chances Of Champions League

JAKARTA - AS Roma snatched a Derby della Capitale victory to finish off the chances of city rivals Lazio appearing in next season's Champions League.

Reported from Antara, the 176th edition of derby della Capitale played in the 37th week of the Italian League at the Stadio Olimpico, on Saturday 15 May local time (Sunday WIB), won by Roma with a score of 2-0 over Lazio.

Defeat in the capital derbies, leaving sixth-placed Lazio failing to add to their 67-point lead, Although they still have two games to go, Lazio are certainly not going to be able to chase the top four, so next year "only" will feature in the second tier of UEFA's Europa League competition.

As for Roma (61), the win solidified their position in seventh place in the standings, with a five-point advantage over Sassuolo who are only playing tomorrow, the Italian League's official website notes.

If they remain in seventh place until the end of the season, Roma will earn one ticket to the Conference League qualifying playoffs, UEFA's third-tier competition that begins rolling next season.

Lazio actually broke through the Roma penalty box a few times early in the game, but Senad Lulic's header went off target and Luis Alberto's shot was blocked by the home defence.

Then in the 26th minute, Alberto again created chances for simone inzaghi's team, unfortunately his shot could still be edged by goalkeeper Daniel Fuzato.

Three minutes into the second half, Roma finally launched an optimal attack with Henrikh Mkhitaryan's right-footed shot from Edin Dzeko's cross to open the scoring for Lazio.

Roma took control of the game early in the second half, but no fewer than five tries were conceded by Dzeko et al.

Instead, Lazio almost equalised in the 75th minute through an attack that ended with Alberto's cross, but Fuzato once again blocked Ciro Immobile's shot.

Three minutes later, Roma doubled their lead when Pedro Rodriguez fired a long-range shot that lodged comfortably in the bottom left corner of the Lazio goal.

Lazio's attacks in an attempt to bounce back from a 2-0 deficit and a 2-0 scoreline for Roma lasted until the whistle sounded loud at the Olimpico, greeted by cheers from Il Lupo's players.

In the next match, Roma will visit Spezia's headquarters on Sunday 23 May next week, while Lazio will play their 25th match against Torino at the Olimpico on Wednesday 18 May.
