JAKARTA - Putri Kusuma Wardani is targeted to reach the semifinals of the 2025 Korean Open badminton event which will take place this week.

The badminton player who was born in Tangerang is the only single daughter who represents Indonesia in the event which will take place on September 23-28, 2025.

The women's singles coach, Imam Tohari, said that his team needed to prepare well to beat Akane Yamaguchi, who he might meet again at that stage.

"I want him to be able to go to the semifinals first and be able to meet Akane (Yamaguchi) again if he sees the draw. I hope he can put up a better fight, thankfully it can penetrate," said Imam.

On paper, the 23-year-old badminton player has a bad record. Of the five clashes in total, Putri has not yet secured victory once.

Putri felt the latest defeat against Akane when they faced off in the quarter-finals of the 2025 China Masters Super 750 BWF which ended just last week.

"Yesterday, I saw a lack of confidence from Putri against Akane. So, her homework was indeed how to penetrate the top four players," said Imam.

Akane is one of five badminton players in the top five BWF rankings that the Princess cannot stop. The other four names are An Se-young, Chen Yufei, Wang Zhi Yi, and Han Yue.

Indonesia has sent a total of 13 representatives to the Korea Open 2025. Other representatives consist of five men's singles, three men's doubles, one women's doubles, and three mixed doubles.
