China Masters 2025: Leo/Bagas Qualify For The Second Round

Leo Rolly Carnando/Bagas Maulana became the last Indonesian representative to the last 16 of the 2025 China Masters (doc. PBSI).

JAKARTA The men's doubles Leo Rolly Carnando/Bagas Maulana managed to add tickets to the second round of the 2025 China Masters for Indonesia. They were the last representatives to make sure they escaped.

Leo/Bagas won dramatically three games 21-16, 16-21, and 21-16 against the Japanese pair, Kenya Mitsuhashi/Hiroki Okamura, on Wednesday, September 17, 2025, WIB night.

"Our performance went up and down in today's match. Indeed, after the minor results in several recent tournaments, I just thought about it, including in the match," said Leo.

This is the fourth round of 16 in a row that Leo/Bagas walks into. The same stage they previously reached at the China Open, World Championships, and the 2025 Hong Kong Open last week.

However, in the previous three tournaments, their journey never made it to the quarter-finals. In the two tournaments before that, they even went straight home in the first half.

In the second round tomorrow, September 18, 2025, Leo/Bagas will meet Man Wei Chong/Kai Wun Tee from Malaysia. The fifth seed got a second round ticket after beating Christo Popov/Toma Junior Popov (France).

"Tomorrow against the Malaysian pair, we will definitely know our pattern. Moreover, there is Herry Imam Pierngadi there (as their coach). We have to be ready with a counter strategy," said Leo.

From the men's doubles number, Indonesia placed a total of two representatives in the second half. One other pair is Fajar Alfian/Muhammad Shohibul Fikri.

Overall, Indonesia has seven representatives in the second half. The other five are Putri Kusuma Wardani, Jonatan Christie, Jafar Hidayatullah/Felisha Alberta Nathaniel Pasaribu, Amri Syahnawi/Nita Violina Marwah, and Rachel Alllessya Rose/Febi Setianingrum.
