Hong Kong Open 2025: Patience/Reza Lose In Quarter Finals

JAKARTA - Men's doubles journey Sabar Karyaman Gutama/Mohammad Reza Pahlevi Isfahani at the Hong Kong Open 2025 ran aground in the quarter-finals.

The seventh seed was eliminated after losing in two straight games 21-23 and 17-21 against Fang-Chih Lee/Fang-Jen Lee of China Taipei on Friday, September 12, 2025.

"Alhamdulillah, we can finish well even though the results may not be in accordance with expectations. We've only tried our best," said Sabar.

Patience/Reza have had a dramatic match since the first game. They had to struggle to bounce back from 5-11 and had turned ahead 20-18.

However, their opponents managed to score three consecutive points to get the game point. Patience/Reza also got up to identify the score, but then failed.

In the second game, the game was also tight, but Sabar/Reza were never in front of the opponent. They were forced to keep chasing and finally had to admit Fang-Chih Lee/Fang-Jen Lee's superiority.

"We have to be much more patient, much more control, reduce death by ourselves. At the end point when we take the lead we have to focus even more," said Sabar.

This is Sabar/Reza's third defeat against Fang-Chih Lee/Fang-Jen Lee of their total four clashes. Sabar/Reza's only victory took place at the Macau Open 2025.

The defeat of Sabar/Reza made Indonesia's men's doubles run out of representatives in this Super 500 BWF tournament. Previously, Leo Rolly Carnando/Bagas Maulana had returned home in the second half.
